Golden Rule No. 11 · give others the chance to be generous
When we offer to pick up the tab, insist on holding the door, or encourage someone to go ahead of us in line at the market, we are doing so with the intent of being helpful, considerate, and thoughtful. Well, when the other person refuses to let you pay for dinner, sideswipes to the left and pushes out the other door, or encourages you to have your place in line, well, that person is robbing you of your chance to be generous. So, as the recipient of generosity, take it, for everybody’s sake.
